President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed: "Our contemporary history preserves many of the great roles played by Iraqi women against dictatorship and tyranny, as women contributed to the revolutions that took place against the despotic regimes, and had a major role in the mountains and marshes." The President said at the (Islamic Day to Combat Violence Against Women) ceremony held by the National Wisdom Movement: "We are in dire need of a lot of work, education and awareness of the importance of appreciating the role of women in society, and at the forefront of these tasks is education to completely end the various forms of violence that women and children face, whether within the family or in social life." He added: "During our visits to countries, we sought to correct incorrect perceptions about Iraq, whether in terms of security or human rights, especially women's rights. Many international officials at the level of presidents still do not know, for example, that there is good parliamen tary representation for women in the House of Representatives. He continued: "We need our embassies and Iraqi diplomats to continue political and media meetings to clarify the image of the new Iraq, especially after the defeat of the forces of terrorism and crime."
