Ramallah - Ma'an - The Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and Ex-Prisoners warned on Thursday that the Israeli occupation authorities are deliberately providing a fertile environment that allows the spread of skin diseases among detainees in Megiddo Prison. The Authority's lawyer, who recently visited the prison, explained that the health conditions of the detainees are difficult and worrying, and that skin diseases are increasing every day. The reason for this is that the prison administration does not provide medicines and treatment for the sick among them, and deprives them of obtaining cleaning materials and disinfectants, and also allocates them a few minutes to shower with water only. The Commission called on the World Health Organization to assume its responsibilities, and to go to Megiddo Prison and all prisons and detention centers, and to provide medicines and treatment for sick detainees in general, and detainees suffering from contagious skin diseases in particular, as this disease has become a th reat to their lives, and its spread and exacerbation has become rapid, dangerous and worrying. She explained that detainees suffering from skin diseases are in constant pain, as their skin turns red, and the pimples and holes on their bodies bleed and produce white and yellow substances (pus). They are unable to sleep, and this is exacerbated by the high temperatures and humidity. The Commission's lawyer visited each of: Iyad Amara (40 years old) from Tulkarm, Amjad Jaradat (21 years old) from Jenin, and Imad Atrash from Salfit, and they confirmed that the general living and health conditions are still complicated, and the prison administration is continuing to take revenge on them, as they are subjected to beatings and torture from time to time, and that the assault on them at the beginning of the arrest was severe.
