Manama, Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, Chief of Public Security, chaired the third emergency meeting of the National Civil Emergency Management Committee. At the beginning of the meeting, the Chief welcomed the attendees and conveyed the appreciation of Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Civil Defence Council, on the efforts exerted in dealing with the impact of unstable weather and heavy rainfall. The meeting included a briefing on operations carried out by concerned ministries and authorities during the rainfall period and discussed challenges that had occurred. The meeting explored solutions and procedures to overcome issues related to heavy rainfall. Lt. Gen. Al Hassan commended the proactive plans and measures and services to deal with adverse weather conditions. The Chief of Public Security asserted that concerned authorities continued their efforts to deal with the spread of gas smell in some areas. He highlighted that Bapco Energies, in coordin ation with the Ministry of Oil and Environment, the General Directorate of Civil Defence and other partners authorities, are taking the required procedures to limit and control the spread of gases as per plans prepared to handle the situation. He highlighted the importance of setting different scenarios to list risks and implement precautionary plans to protect the safety of citizens and residents, in addition to enhancing awareness in dealing with such accidents according to international standards. At the end of the meeting, the Chief of Public Security directed forming a sub-committee to determine the strengths and weaknesses in the action taken to deal with heavy rain. The recommendations shall be referred to the Civil Defence Council. He also directed for drafting periodic reports by the National Emergency Management Centre in coordination with the concerned authorities. Source: Bahrain News Agency
