Qatar Cabinet Endorses New Private School Legislation and Highlights Regional Peace Efforts

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan in Doha. Following the session, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi announced that the Prime Minister briefed ministers on a series of meetings and contacts conducted in recent days under the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

According to Qatar News Agency, these discussions are part of Qatar's ongoing efforts to support regional and international initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening security and stability in the region. The Cabinet expressed its continued support for mediation efforts led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and commended Islamabad's role in facilitating dialogue between conflicting parties. Additionally, ministers called for international backing to achieve a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The Cabinet strongly condemned the recent drone attack on a commercial cargo vessel in Qatar's territorial waters, describing it as a "flagrant violation" of freedom of navigation and international law. It further rejected any attempts to use the Strait of Hormuz as a leverage point in regional conflicts or to alter its status as an international waterway.

In other matters, the Cabinet praised the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs' 2025-2030 strategy, which aims to consolidate the message of Islam and build sustainable societies. This strategy was launched by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani.

On the legislative front, the Cabinet approved a draft law regulating private schools. This proposed legislation, developed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, aims to modernize the legal framework for private education, enhance governance standards, and improve education quality in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. The draft law will be published on the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau's "Sharek" platform for public feedback before legislative review.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a draft memorandum of understanding on legal cooperation between Qatar's Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting concluded with the Cabinet reviewing the 2025 annual report of the Permanent Committee for Search, Rescue and Humanitarian Aid in affected areas and a report on participation in the COP30 United Nations climate conference scheduled in Brazil in November 2025.
