Cairo: The State of Qatar participated in the 28th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information held in Cairo, Egypt. Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Head of the Qatari delegation, Hassan Jassim Al Sayed, represented Qatar at this session, addressing critical issues such as the challenges faced by the communications sector in the State of Palestine and the impact of conflict on the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, the session approved the Arab AI strategy and developed an Arab vision for the global digital charter, which originated from the Future Summit held in September 2024 during the United Nations General Assembly. The session also assessed the alignment of this charter with the Arab digital agenda. Discussions included Arab cooperation with other regional organizations, the Arab Digital Capital Concept, and the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction through communications and information technology. A commemorative postage stamp marking the 80th anniversary of the Arab League’s founding was also approved.
The event endorsed reports from technical committees on communications and information technology, and reviewed preparations for the Arab group’s participation in international conferences on communications and postage. Al Sayed highlighted that the meeting focused on communications and information technology issues and approved the Arab AI strategy, reflecting global technological advancements.
In his address, HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector of the Arab League, Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki, emphasized the need to bridge the digital gap and ensure internet access as an inherited right. He stressed achieving Sustainable Development Goals through the global digital charter and increasing investments to enhance infrastructure.
Ambassador Al Malki urged the council to support the State of Palestine in overcoming its communications sector challenges. He praised the efforts of Arab nations in advocating for Palestine’s rights in international forums and providing technical support to alleviate burdens on the Palestinian people.
