Qatar Olympic Committee Marks World Walking Day

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) marked the TAFISA World Walking Day at the Al-Gharafa Park in Doha on Sunday. It is an event that annually celebrated by the Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA).

Around 250 students (boys and girls) from primary schools, enthusiasts of walking sport, directors of QOC departments, heads of sections and units, representatives from Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Ministry of Municipality as well as the sport and community personalities were integral part of Sunday's event. All participants walked a 1km distance around Al-Gharafa Park.

Event director, Mohammed Abdulsalam Abdulla said: "This event is celebrated worldwide by the lovers and amateurs from all age groups, as it is one of the QOC's community programs that will keep sport for all concept active and will help individuals to build up better communities and improve the learning process for students".

Event deputy director Saeeda Mubarak Al-Abdulla said: "We are truly grateful to having primary school students and sport enthusiasts in this event, as one of the event's key objectives is enhancing physical and mental activity, fight against modern disease and make sport for health concept applicable and real".

The key objective of TAFISA World Walking Day is to promote sport for all culture, to encourage society doing all types of sports, namely the walking sport, because it is more safer and acceptable to all age groups. (QNA)
