The State of Qatar has taken part in a conference titled Media and Information Literacy and Global Understanding: Peace for all, held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo on Monday. Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the Arab League Khalid Abdullah Al Ibrahim led the State of Qatars delegation to the conference. The three-day conference primarily aims to highlight the importance of media and information culture in shaping the public awareness and directing the public opinion towards issues of peace and co-existence, along with the role played by technology and information in achieving these objectives. Also, the event strives to shine a spotlight on the significance of media education in developing the skills of critical analysis of media content, in addition to reinforcing the capabilities of detecting real and fake news which are essential to build peaceful societies that share mutual understanding. The event brings together international experts and representatives of me dia and cultural organizations to discuss the methods of utilizing media and information tools to bring nations closer and promote cultural dialogue and understanding. Addressing the conference, Secretary-General of the Arab league Ahmed Aboul Gheit underscored the importance of the culture of tolerance and accepting the other, affirming that it behooves the media and religious institutions to propagate the culture of tolerance and renounce hate speech.
