Qatar Reaffirms Support for Lebanese Government Amidst Ongoing Challenges

Doha: In light of the significant challenges currently facing Lebanon on political, economic, and humanitarian fronts, Qatar has reiterated its commitment to support the Lebanese government and people. During a recent phone call between HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Prime Minister of the Republic of Lebanon Dr. Nawaf Salam, Qatar emphasized its steadfast backing for Lebanon’s unity, territorial integrity, and development efforts.

According to Qatar News Agency, Sheikh Mohammed underscored Qatar’s continued support for the new Lebanese government’s initiatives in economic and development fields. He also highlighted the importance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and called for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from all Lebanese territories. This reflects Qatar’s broader strategy of working with international partners to promote peace and stability in Lebanon.

The editorial from Al-Sharq newspaper further elaborated on Qatar’s coordination with global stakeholders to reach an agreement that enhances peace in Lebanon. It stressed Doha’s dedication to supporting Lebanese institutions in safeguarding national sovereignty, protecting citizens’ rights, and achieving necessary reforms.

Meanwhile, The Peninsula, an English-language publication, noted Qatar’s ongoing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Qatar has been a major contributor to the agency, pledging significant financial aid to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza, including a $100 million pledge announced last year. UNRWA spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna acknowledged Qatar’s crucial role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, highlighting the increased Qatari aid following the ceasefire agreement.
