The State of Qatar has participated in the 65th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization WIPO, currently held in Geneva, during the period from Jul. 9 to 17. HE Permanent Representative of State of Qatar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah led the State of Qatar's delegation in the sessions. Delivering the State of Qatar's statement before the WIPOs inaugural session, Her Excellency said the cooperation between the State of Qatar and WIPO has witnessed a new year of growing partnership in multiple areas of intellectual property, extending sincere thanks to the general-directorate's efforts in advancing this cooperation in the areas of higher education, entrepreneurship, and alternative means of dispute settlement. HE Dr. Hind Al Muftah noted the State of Qatar's efforts throughout the past period to accelerate the process of joining numerous international WIPO-run co nventions, affirming that the document of the State of Qatar's accession to the Madrid Protocol for the International Registration of Marks has been recently delivered and will enter into force on Aug.3, 2024, along with the ongoing efforts with the WIPO's General-Directorate to continue to comport with the national measures in line with the requirements of this accession. She underscored the State of Qatar's determination to continue to modernize the legislative framework for the intellectual property protection, congratulating the success of the Diplomatic Conference on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge, along with its significance in promoting transparency in the patent system and achieving equitable benefit-sharing, especially with indigenous peoples and local communities. Her Excellency underlined that the State of Qatar's delegation backs the ongoing negotiations in a variety of WIPO's committees and looks forward to constructively working with the member states in order to ensure the success of the Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty, due to be convened in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during Nov. 11-22, 2024, emphasizing that Qatar countenances the proposals submitted by the Arab Group to incorporate the Arabic language into all WIPO's works and systems. The State of Qatar's delegation has actively participated in the series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO. Noteworthy, WIPO is one of the oldest professional agencies in the UN system and the largest international organizations in Geneva, the global forum for intellectual property (IP) services, policy, information, and cooperation. It has 193 member states and primarily develops a balanced and effective international intellectual property system that encourages innovation and creativity for the benefit of all. The organization was established through the signing of the WIPO Convention in Stockholm on Jul. 14, 1967, and entered into force in 1970, was amended in 1979, with the St ate of Qatar joining the organization in 1976.
