Doha: Qatar University (QU) has announced the launch of its research priorities for 2025-2030 as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance its position as a leading national institution in academic and research excellence with a prestigious global reputation. Through these priorities, the university aims to elevate the national scientific research system and direct research efforts toward research axes that align with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, including human, social, economic, and environmental development.
According to Qatar News Agency, these priorities embody a comprehensive strategy designed to drive research and innovation, promote sustainability, and enhance QU’s role in serving society through five main research pillars: Health, Energy, Digital Technology, Resource Sustainability, and Society. On the occasion of launching the research priorities, President of QU, Dr. Omar Al Ansari stated that the university is committed to producing impactful knowledge that serves society and contributes to building an integrated system for scientific research governance. This approach enhances the university’s contribution to achieving Qatar’s national goals and establishing its global position in research and innovation.
QU’s Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Aiman Erbad emphasized the pivotal role of colleges and research centers in implementing these research priorities through strategic planning, directing research efforts, and aligning research grants and graduate programs with the specified priorities. He added that QU continues to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, student participation in research projects, and building strategic local and international partnerships with academic and industrial institutions.
Director of Research Planning and Development at the Research and Graduate Studies Sector, Prof. Bassem Hammadi explained that the updated research priorities were developed based on a precise scientific methodology that relied on Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy and the strategies of relevant ministries. The process included reviewing the university’s previous priorities, aligning them with global research trends, using Scopus database indicators, and analyzing the research capabilities of QU researchers. Prof. Hammadi highlighted that the new priorities focus on five research pillars that align with national needs and global challenges, aiming to build a research future based on innovation.
