MANAMA: Qatar's Fares Ibrahim is poised to launch his campaign in the 2024 IWF World Weightlifting Championships on Friday, competing in the 102 kg category. The event, which runs from December 6 to 15 in Bahrain, is the second-largest weightlifting competition this year after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Championship. According to Qatar News Agency, Ibrahim, who secured a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has been intensively preparing under the guidance of his coach, Ibrahim Hassouna. The championships will see participation from 473 athletes representing 92 countries, including 227 female and 246 male competitors. The competition will feature various weight classes. Women will compete in the 45kg, 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 71kg, 76kg, 81kg, 87kg, and +87kg categories, while the men's events will include 55kg, 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, 109kg, and +109kg categories.
