Qatar Foundation (QF) has developed an innovative platform for managing waste through digital commerce, which aims QKONs is aimed primarily at enhancing waste recycling as part of the ‘circular economy’ concept – where items are designed to be remade and reused rather than simply disposed of, cutting waste and pollution, and open the door for users to contribute to reducing negative impacts on the environment.
Dr Tareq al-Ansari, Dr Younss Ait Mou, and Sarah Namany, from the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, are working to unite their experiences and passion to has developed a mobile application, called QKONs, which facilitates the waste recycling process through digital trading for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
The digital waste exchange platform allows users to benefit economically from their transactions in the form of ‘rewards’ and offers an added incentive as it aims to encourage users to dispose of their waste conveniently by visiting tagged bins that will be made available around QF's Education City.
