Independent Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman ruled out holding early parliamentary elections at the end of this year. Othman said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: 'Some political figures are calling for early parliamentary elections for various reasons, including the increasing popularity of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the government's achievements, and ensuring that state resources are not used in the elections,' noting the lack of consensus among the active political forces on this, including the Kurds who do not want to do so. Othman stressed: 'The Kurds are still supporting Al-Sudanese's government and its steps towards correcting the current situation.' The Kurdish politician explained: 'Determining the identity of the next prime minister is subject to political agreements and the number of parliamentary seats for the blocs in the upcoming elections scheduled to be held at the end of next year, and talking about renewing al-Sudani for a second term is prematur e."
