Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Warns of High Stakes for Nuclear Confrontation

Geneva: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin has raised alarms over the increasing risk of a direct military confrontation between nuclear states. Speaking at the High-Level Segment Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Vershinin expressed grave concerns regarding the deteriorating global security environment, which he claims is overshadowed by a dire crisis as the United Nations approaches its 80th anniversary.

According to Qatar News Agency, Vershinin highlighted the accelerating degeneration of the international situation, warning of the escalating tensions and conflicts that are spreading across various regions. He pointed to the ongoing confrontation over the model of international order as the root cause of the current predicament, emphasizing that ambitions for dominance conflict with the aspirations for a more equitable international order grounded in multipolarity.

Vershinin further criticized those seeking global dominance for blatantly violating the principle of equal, indivisible security. He accused them of ignoring the core interests of other nations, thereby undermining previous agreements and striving for uncontested military superiority. These actions, he argued, force other countries to undertake specific measures to protect their security interests.
