Governor of the Russian border region of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, declared a regional state of emergency today, citing continued attacks by Ukrainian forces. "The situation in the Belgorod region remains extremely difficult and tense. Daily shelling by Ukrainian forces has destroyed homes, wounded and killed civilians. Therefore, starting today, we are taking an appropriate decision on the entire territory of the Belgorod region, in order to additionally protect the population by declaring a state of emergency at the regional level", Gladkov said in a video posted on the Telegram messaging app. The governor of the region added that this announcement will be followed by an appeal to the government commission to request the declaration of a state of emergency at the federal level. Ukrainian forces are targeting Russian border areas in the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh and Rostov regions. As well as the Crimean peninsula with drones and missiles on an almost daily basis. Since the outbreak of the R ussian military operation in Ukraine in 2022, there have been conflicting reports about the extent of the losses suffered by the two parties, as each party claims to have inflicted heavy losses on the other, without being able to verify the accuracy of the information, due to the ongoing fighting.
