Doha: The Shura Council on Wednesday participated in the 10th briefing session of the Empowering Young Parliamentarians series, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) via video communication. The briefing session was dedicated to the role of young parliamentarians in preventing conflicts and in building peace. The Shura Council was represented at the session by HE member of the Council Mohammed bin Omar Al Mannai. The session discussed the role of young parliamentarians in preventing conflicts and in building peace, through strategies for activating youth participation in peace processes and using legislative and parliamentary oversight tools. The session also touched on the importance of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2250 (2015) and its impact on enhancing the role of youth in peace and security, in addition to reviewing the challenges and opportunities for its implementation. During the session, HE Al Mannai reviewed the role of the State of Qatar and its mediation efforts to support i nternational peace and security, starting with its efforts in Afghanistan, through to its humanitarian initiatives to reunite Ukrainian children. Al Mannai stressed the need for the Youth Forum of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to have an effective role in supporting peace and security, including stopping the aggression on Gaza.
