Somali Military Announces Death of Nearly 50 Al Shabaab Members in Security Operation

Mogadishu: The Somali military has announced the killing of nearly 50 members of the Al Shabaab group in a security operation in the southeastern part of the country.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Somali military stated that the operation, which took place in the Middle Shabelle region late last night, resulted in the death of approximately 50 Al Shabaab militants.

This operation comes just one day after Somali forces killed 10 members of Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab in a separate operation in the Middle Shabelle region.

The Middle Shabelle region has seen a series of bloody clashes in recent months between Somali government forces and Al Shabaab militants. The region is considered one of the group’s strongholds, housing many of its fighters who have made the southeastern areas of the country their base after losing control of several other locations across Somalia.
