Mogadishu: HE Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated the emergency center, which was constructed and equipped by Qatar Charity (QC), at De Martino Hospital in Mogadishu. The inauguration ceremony of the facility was attended by HE Somali Minister of Health Dr. Ali Haji Adam and HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia, Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Nuaimi along with a delegation from Qatar Charity and a lineup of Somali ministers and health officials.

According to Qatar News Agency, the center is designed to address critical medical and emergency care needs for the Somali population. It features modern medical equipment, surgical facilities, intensive care units, and laboratories to provide advanced healthcare services. It also includes a radiology department with advanced X-ray and MRI machines and a pharmacy.

Prime Minister Barre toured the facility and commended its role in improving Somalia’s healthcare sector. He emphasized the center’s importance in filling a significant gap in emergency medical services. “This center is a vital addition to our healthcare system and reflects our commitment to improving medical services for the Somali people,” said the Prime Minister. “We are deeply grateful to the State of Qatar and Qatar Charity for their generous support in making this project a reality.” Director of Development Operations at Qatar Charity, Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji stated that the project is part of Qatar Charity’s commitment to strengthening Somalia’s healthcare sector. “This center is vital for enhancing the hospital’s capacity to handle emergency and critical cases,” he said, adding that the project will also improve citizens’ quality of life and the hospital’s response to emergencies.

During their visit, Qatar Charity’s delegation laid the foundation stone for a medical supply warehouse in the Banadir region and attended the implementation of “Compassionate Hearts,” a humanitarian campaign that conducted surgeries for 30 children with congenital heart defects. Somali government officials also attended the event. These projects were made possible by the generosity of the people of Qatar.

In 2024, Qatar Charity implemented 16 projects in the field of health and nutrition in Somalia. These initiatives, totaling over QR 3.5 million, provided aid to more than 58,000 people.
