The First International Conference on Nuclear Medicine Concluded in Basra

Basra The first international conference on nuclear medicine, which was held by the Iraqi Society for Medical Research and Studies with the participation of doctors and researchers from the governorates, was concluded today in Basra Governorate. It lasted for two days.

The Administrative Deputy Governor of Basra, Dhurgham Al-Ajoudi, said, “Nuclear medicine represents a qualitative leap in the field of tumor diagnosis, and Basra Governorate is continuing to implement a qualitative program providing free, high-accuracy examinations for Basra cancer patients to ensure that they receive excellent medical service and reduce the financial burden on them.”

He added: This type of accurate diagnostic treatment will contribute to improving the medical services provided to patients and reducing time and effort for patients and doctors alike.

For his part, Director General of Basra Health, Dr. Abbas Al-Tamimi, explained that the conference discussed over two days a number of practical research specializing in the field of nuclear medicine, indicating that this type of diagnosis does not only include cancer patients, as it includes many diseases.

Al-Tamimi pointed out that at the end of this year, another nuclear medicine center will be opened, funded by the Ministry of Oil, to provide medical and diagnostic services, which is the largest in the country, which will contribute to preventing patients from traveling outside Iraq to receive treatment.

He pointed out that the conference, which lasted for two days, witnessed the discussion of scientific research in the field of nuclear medicine, explaining that the governorate will witness, by the end of this year, the opening of another nuclear medicine center funded by the Ministry of Oil to provide medical and diagnostic services, which is the largest in the country, and will contribute to preventing patients from traveling out of Iraq to receive treatment.

In turn, nuclear medicine specialist Dr. Rafid Riyad indicated, “Holding the conference will contribute to spreading the culture of nuclear medicine among doctors and transferring the latest technologies that this type of specialized treatment has reached that can be applied inside Iraq.” / End
