Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality, the Ministry of Municipality inaugurated today (Monday) 2nd Waste Management Conference and Exhibition 2022.
which is organized by the Ministry on 13th & 14th June 2022 at the Sheraton Doha Hotel.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Ministers from the State of Qatar and from brotherly and friendly countries, in addition to a number of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State, heads and representatives of a number of relevant international organizations, and local and international officials and specialists in the waste management and recycling sector.
The second edition of the Second Waste Management Exhibition and Conference constitutes an important international platform to attract governmental and semi-governmental institutions, the private sector and local businesses to communicate and exchange ideas and knowledge about waste management, treatment and recycling.
In his speech at the opening session of the conference, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality stressed that the organization of 2nd Waste Management Conference and Exhibition comes within the framework of the great interest that the State of Qatar attributes to the issue of reduction, elimination, proper management and recycling of waste to be a multi-use source for a number of products and industries, various businesses that serve the economy and contribute to preserving the Qatari environment, in implementation of the sustainable strategy of the Ministry of Municipality, and within the integrated plan for waste management, in addition to developing policies and legislation that support waste reduction, and national awareness programs and campaigns.
His Excellency said that the Ministry of Municipality has developed a comprehensive strategy to deal with all types of waste, and has also adopted a comprehensive plan through the development of an integrated national program for solid waste management, which aims to create an integrated infrastructure to manage solid waste activities, reduce the volume of waste, and strengthen partnership with the private sector to invest in Solid waste management sector, as well as to raise and consolidate public awareness regarding waste reduction and the importance of recycling. To achieve these goals, a team was formed with the mission of reaching the best possible results for this program. International companies specialized in this field were also engaged to support this team to implement the desired goals to preserve environmental integrity and achieve sustainable development, and in order to find the best solutions and use modern technologies to keep pace with growth, population, urban and economic development in the State of Qatar.
On the first day of the conference, the ministry has launched number of modern initiatives at global level, directed at multiple sectors in the country, in addition to supporting the idea of community participation to preserve the environment, and encouraging investment in this domain.
The agenda of the two-day conference (June 13 and 14) includes presentations and panel discussions by more than 35 speakers and panelists including officials, experts and managers of specialized companies, during which many topics related to waste management and recycling are addressed, the most important of which are: Modern regulations and legislations. In addition to presentations on modern technology for collecting and sorting at the source, treating landfills, reduction and treating food waste, and panel discussions on circular economy and initiatives, and the importance of participating "together towards zero waste".
The conference is also accompanied by a specialized exhibition in which more than 40 official bodies, companies and individuals will participate, offering their services and expertise. The exhibition includes a corner to display artworks by some artists from Qatar, who presented designs and paintings from recycled materials and as part of the ongoing awareness campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Municipality.
Qatar University participates in 2nd Waste Management Conference and Exhibition:
To enhance efforts for sustainability, the Ministry of Municipality Qatar University (QU) participated in in 2nd Waste Management Conference and Exhibition on June 13 and 14 at Sheraton Doha Hotel.
Qatar university several departments participated, which included; Qatar University Press, Environmental and Sustainability Facilities & General Services section ?Department, Center for Sustainable Development - College of Arts and Sciences Environment and sustainability club established by Biological and environmental science department.
The conference comes in implementation of the sustainable strategic plan of the Ministry, following Qatar National Vision 2030, and in support of the Zero Waste campaign launched by the Ministry in February of this year and will continue for a whole year under the slogan (Less Waste for A Beautiful City).
