Baghdad, President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received today, Tuesday, at the Baghdad Palace, the Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, according to a presidential statement, the participation of friendly and sisterly countries in the second Baghdad International Conference on Combating Drugs was reviewed. The President of the Republic stressed the importance of coordination and joint cooperation to confront the scourge of drugs that threatens the security and stability of countries, and the future of their children. The President referred to the deep historical relations that bind the two brotherly countries, stressing Iraq's support for Lebanon in various fields, stressing the need to unify efforts in facing the challenges surrounding the region, and to enhance cooperation and coordination between countries on issues of common interest, in a way that achieves their interests and aspirations in establishin g security, stability and peace. The President addressed the Palestinian issue, stressing the need to unify the international position and seek to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and support the efforts made to improve the humanitarian situation, stop the economic collapse, and provide basic services to civilians, pointing out the need to find a just solution to the Palestinian issue in a way that supports stability in the region in general. For his part, the Lebanese Minister thanked Iraq's positions towards its brothers in Lebanon, and Baghdad's hosting of the second conference to combat drugs, expressing his country's keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Iraq in the security and intelligence aspects, in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly countries and their peoples.
