A meeting of the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by the Terrorist Organization ISIS (UNITAD) was held in Salah al-Din Governorate in the districts of Tikrit, Al-Alam, Al-Dhuluiya, and Al-Dour. The Governorate stated in a statement: "The meeting, which was chaired by the head of the team, Kanga Tiburi, from the Second Field Investigation Unit, was attended by the administrative deputy of the Governor, Hashem Azawi, along with a number of tribal sheikhs and dignitaries and directors of administrative units in these districts." The report, issued by the team, confirmed that the terrorist organization ISIS committed crimes against humanity against the people of these areas, as it violated the laws and customs followed in wars and armed conflicts, and committed war crimes that included forced detention, torture, killing, and destruction of cultural property and civilian targets. The report also documented the organization's detention of hundreds of people from Ti krit, Al-Alam, Al-Dour and others, in addition to its execution of dozens of civilians and its systematic targeting of security forces. The report discussed in detail the Speicher massacre, revealing that terrorist elements from various members of the organization, and from different cities, executed dozens of members of the security forces after they took control of the center of Tikrit Governorate. The report also referred to the large displacement that the city witnessed, fleeing the brutality and cruelty of the organization. The report praised the heroic stances of the cities of Al-Alam and Al-Duluiya in confronting the terrorist elements, as well as the role of the sons of Al-Alam and Tikrit in rescuing hundreds of members of the security forces, students of Tikrit University, and state employees, and ensuring their safe exit in June 2014. The full report is expected to be published on the team's websites next week, as the team will officially conclude its work on September 17, 2024.
