This came during a speech by the head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front at a ceremony held by the Kirkuk Qishla Association for Martyrs and Political Prisoners of the Iraqi Turkmen on the occasion of the annual anniversary of the martyrs of the Turkmen Liberation Army who were executed by the former regime in 1980. The ceremony was attended by the head of the Turkmen parliamentary bloc, MP Arshad Al-Salihi, party leaders, personalities, families of martyrs and political prisoners. Turan stressed in his speech that 'the events of July 9, 1980 are a turning point in Turkmen history, and permanent proof of the most heinous practices of injustice against the Turkmen by the defunct regime, pointing out that remembering the Turkmen martyrs is a message to the Turkmen youth to follow the national principles adopted by the Turkmen fighters in that era.'
