Turkey called for supporting the draft resolution submitted by Palestine to the United Nations General Assembly, calling for an end to the Israeli occupation, according to what was stated by Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmed Yildiz, in a speech during an emergency session of the Assembly last night. Yidiz said in a speech during the session: Turkey is a participating state in submitting the draft resolution submitted by Palestine to the United Nations General Assembly today, stressing that his country is also a strong supporter of the decisions of the International Court of Justice and that the draft resolution carries historical importance, and that it is the first draft resolution submitted by Palestine to the United Nations General Assembly. The Turkish Ambassador explained that the draft resolution provides the international community with the opportunity to avoid long-standing injustice, and stressed the importance of member states' commitment to the decisions of the International Court of Justice and the rules of the United Nations Charter. He added: "Turkey calls on all member states to support this draft resolution, which is in line with international law and the legal framework established by the International Court of Justice, and that Turkey will continue to strive for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, recognition of the State of Palestine and the two-state solution." He pointed out that the decisions to be taken in the UN General Assembly will have long-term effects not only on Palestine, but also on the level of international law and the "reputation" of the United Nations. Palestine submitted its first draft resolution to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday after the additional rights it gained last May, and the draft resolution calls on Israel to end its presence in the occupied Palestinian territories within 12 months. / End Source: National Iraqi News Agency
