Turkey evacuates its nationals from Niger through a special flight

Turkey evacuated its nationals stranded in Niger due to the closure of airspace after the military coup late last month to Istanbul via a special flight organized by Turkish Airlines.

The plane, which took off from Diori Hamani International Airport in the capital, Niamey, with an exceptional flight permit, arrived at Istanbul International Airport at dawn today, Wednesday.

The military council that seized power in Niger closed the country's airspace last Sunday until further notice.

The Commander of the Presidential Guard Unit, General Abd al-Rahman Chiani, led a military coup in Niger on the twenty-sixth of last month to overthrow the rule of President Muhammad Bazoum, who is of Arab origin, which was met with international condemnation and calls for the return of the first democratically elected President to his post.
