In celebration of Emirati Women’s Day, and in cooperation with the General Women’s Union (GWU) and the UAE Embassy to the Republic of Poland, the UAE Embassy in Kuwait organized a session entitled: “Emirati Women: Empowerment and Leadership Achievements” that highlighted the achievements of women and their role in national development.
The session began with a speech delivered by His Excellency Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, UAE Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, in which he discussed the role of Emirati women and their active role in the civil, military, literary, artistic, scientific, and sports fields as key partners in the UAE’s developmental process.
His Excellency explained that over the past fifty years, Emirati women have assumed various leadership positions through which they have accomplished many achievements at the local, regional, and international levels.
For her part, Her Excellency Dr. Eman Al Salami, UAE Ambassador to Poland, expressed her pride at the achievements of Emirati women. Furthermore, she indicated that she was proud of the UAE leadership’s confidence in her appointment as Head of Mission and the support offered by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to enable Emirati women to work in the diplomatic field.
Her Excellency explained that women constitute approximately 43% of the workforce at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasizing that Emirati women represent the UAE in major countries and have championed key achievements in international organizations and fora, including the UN.
Ahlam Al-Lamki, Head of Research and Development at the General Women's Union, discussed Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), pivotal role in supporting Emirati women. Al-Lamki also underscored Her Highness’ vision to empower women in light of an ambitious action plan and strategy that have contributed to positioning women as essential partners in the UAE’s national development.
For her part, Dr. Salwa Al-Jassar, professor at the College of Education at Kuwait University and former deputy in the Kuwaiti National Assembly, spoke about the UAE’s experience from which others in the region can benefit to empower women to contribute further to the development process.
Dr. Al-Jassar also discussed empowering Kuwaiti women throughout history and her experience as a deputy in the Kuwaiti National Assembly.
Ambassador Amal Al-Hamad of the Arab Development Institute and media figure Thamer Al-Dakhil participated in the session, wherein they noted the achievements of Emirati women and stressed that they have made great strides as a result of the UAE leadership’s prioritization of this file. Al-Hamad added that the achievements of Emirati women also challenge stereotypes on women’s roles in the development process and contributions to national advancement.
