UAE Participates in the Second G-20 Sherpa Meeting

H.E. Ahmed Al Sayegh – Minister of State and UAE G-20 Sherpa, and officials from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation concluded their participation in the Second G-20 Sherpa Meeting that was held in Labuan Baju, Indonesia, on 10-13 July. The meeting followed the conclusion of the G-20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting that took place in Bali, Indonesia, on 7-8 July.

 

The Second Sherpa Meeting gathered official representatives of G-20 member countries, guest invitees and International Organizations to discuss progress and collaboration across the various G-20 Sherpa Working Groups.

 

Priority topics for the UAE which were discussed included climate change and sustainability, energy transition, development, digital economy, trade and investment, and health.

 

His Excellency Al Sayegh conveyed the UAE’s ongoing support for the Indonesian Presidency’s priorities and highlighted the importance of the G-20’s work as the premier economic forum for cooperation. His Excellency also announced the UAE’s commitment to support the Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPR), through a pledge and commitment of USD 20 million to the FIF.

 

This FIF is expected to bring additional, long-term, dedicated resources for PPR, and help developing countries become better prepared for future pandemics.

 

Established in 1999, the G-20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising representatives of the world’s largest economies that works to strengthen international economic cooperation.
