Dr. Abdulnasser Alshaali, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs, Ambassador-Designate of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of India, and UAE G-20 Sous-Sherpa, led a delegation from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation that concluded its participation in the third G-20 Sherpa Meeting held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 27-29 September. The meeting followed the conclusion of multiple G-20 Ministerial Meetings in recent months.
The Third Sherpa Meeting gathered official representatives of G-20-member countries, guest countries, and international organizations to begin drafting the G-20 Leaders’ Declaration and discuss preparations for the Leaders’ Summit in November 2022.
Alshaali commended the Indonesian Presidency for producing a concise Zero Draft of the Leaders’ Declaration and for including the UAE’s proposals in the draft, which broadly reflects the outcomes of various G-20 Working Groups and Ministerial Meetings. He also conveyed the UAE’s recommendations on the text of the Declaration, with the aim of clarifying and strengthening G-20 commitments across various priority areas, including on climate change, the environment, energy security, digital transformation, and tourism.
Established in 1999, the G-20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising representatives of the world’s largest economies that works to strengthen international economic cooperation.
