Doha: The UK’s Premier Keir Starmer pledged to increase defense spending to 2.5 percent of GDP by 2027, indicating that Europe is experiencing a new and unsafe age. Speaking to parliament, Starmer said that the goal is to reach a defense spending of 3 percent of GDP by 2035, noting that the UK’s external development aid funding will be reduced from 0.5 to 0.3 percent of GDP.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Premier said that this is the biggest sustained increase in defense spending since the end of the Cold War, which he described as being a current necessity.
