The Commissioner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, on Monday described turning the agency's main headquarters in the Gaza Strip into a battlefield as "horrific." This came in a post on Lazzarini's account on the X platform, which he attached to pictures showing the destruction caused to the agency's headquarters as a result of the Israeli occupation forces' bombing of the Gaza Strip. Lazzarini considered turning the agency's main headquarters in the Gaza Strip into a battlefield and its razing to the ground a new episode of blatant disregard for international humanitarian law, describing this as "horrifying" and stressing the necessity of protecting United Nations facilities at all times. The UNRWA Commissioner had previously confirmed that the Israeli occupation forces had bombed two-thirds of the agency's schools since the start of the war on Gaza, adding that schools had turned from safe places of education and hope for children into overcro wded shelters and often ended up in a place of death and misery. The Israeli occupation forces continue to commit the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip by launching dozens of air strikes and artillery shelling in an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, made more complicated by the halting of supplies of food, water, medicine, and fuel amid disregard for the UN Security Council resolutions to stop this war immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by taking measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
