UN Official Calls for Doubling Efforts to Prevent Transformation of Conflict in Sudan into Civil War

Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths stressed the importance of doubling the efforts to ensure that conflict in Sudan does not spiral into civil war with grave consequences for the region.

The people of Sudan have endured unspeakable suffering amid violence that is tearing their country apart and they cannot afford to wait, Griffiths said.

He added as the conflict between the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) enters its fourth month, the battle lines are hardening, making it ever more difficult to reach the millions of people who need urgent humanitarian assistance.
