New York: The United Nations has welcomed statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria. UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said Tuesday that the decision aligns with the UN’s ongoing call for meaningful action in this regard, adding that Syrians, both inside Syria and in the diaspora, are urgently calling for broad relief from sanctions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the UN official emphasized the importance of the U.S. decision in facilitating essential services such as healthcare and education, reviving Syria’s economy, enabling regional support, and allowing Syrians to actively contribute to national reconstruction efforts. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Syria’s physical and psychological rebuilding, ensuring that all Syrians feel safe and represented in governance.
Earlier today, President Donald Trump announced during his visit to Saudi Arabia that he would lift U.S. sanctions on Syria.
