US Central Command Anchors Temporary Pier to Gaza Beach

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its personnel had anchored a temporary pier to the beach in Gaza, in a step aimed at supporting the humanitarian mission to deliver additional humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. Trucks carrying humanitarian assistance are expected to begin moving ashore in the coming days. The United Nations will receive the aid and coordinate its distribution into Gaza, CENTCOM said in a statement, stressing that no US troops had entered Gaza. The US-built pier, announced in March by US President Joe Biden, is part of international efforts to deliver more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip amidst the restrictions on overland access into the Strip imposed by the Israeli occupation. Several aid organizations, including United Nations organizations, have warned Gaza is experiencing "catastrophic" levels of hunger and need, and a top U.N. official recently warned northern Gaza is experiencing a "full-blown famine."
