The statement issued from the US-Japan summit called for working towards complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The joint statement, issued by US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida after their talks in Washington strongly criticized North Korea's continued development of ballistic missile programs, including the launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles, which poses a serious threat to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and beyond, as well as the launching of space projectiles using ballistic missile technology. The statement urged North Korea to respond to continuous and serious proposals to return to diplomatic negotiations without preconditions, and called on all United Nations member states to fully comply with Security Council resolutions regarding sanctions on North Korea. The two sides pledged in their joint statement to continue deepening trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the Un ited States, and Japan in enhancing regional security, strengthening deterrence, coordinating development and humanitarian aid efforts, countering North Korea's unlawful cyber activities, and working in the fields of economy, clean energy, and technology, building on the historical success achieved at the US-Japan-Korea Summit in Camp David held in August of last year.
