US Treasury: Washington intends to impose additional sanctions on Tehran

Baghdad, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced on Tuesday: 'It is expected that in the coming days, Iran will face additional sanctions from Washington against the backdrop of the strikes it launched against Israel.' Yellen said, in a press conference on the sidelines of the 2024 spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank: 'I fully expect that we will impose additional sanctions on Iran in the coming days. We do not talk in advance about the sanctions that we intend to implement.' Earlier today, Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz sent letters to 32 countries urging them to impose sanctions on the Iranian missile program and to classify the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. Politico newspaper also reported that the European Union is in the process of imposing new sanctions on Iran that may enter into force this week, if approved by member states.
