Doha: A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the US state of Alaska on Thursday: A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the US state of Alaska on Thursday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the quake struck about 71 kilometers southeast of the city of Nikolai, at a depth of 0.1 kilometers. So far, no casualties or material damage have been reported as a result of the earthquake.

Alaska is located above the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where tectonic plates meet, and the friction of which leads to strong seismic and volcanic activity.
