The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirmed: The Arab League is attending the Baghdad Water Conference, expressing our thanks to the Iraqi government and its keenness to hold the Fourth Baghdad Water Conference. He said that we are confident of the success of the Baghdad conference in reaching solutions to address the water issue, noting that the water situation in Iraq still constitutes pressure despite the government's efforts to implement projects. He added that 80 % of the water in the Arab world comes from outside the Arab countries, stressing that the water issue is an existential issue linked to Arab national security. Aboul Gheit called on the countries neighboring Iraq to increase the water share. Source: National Iraqi News Agency
