Aluminium Bahrain Initiates 19% Production Capacity Reduction

Manama: Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has announced a strategic move to shut down three of its aluminium smelting lines, which constitute 19% of its total production capacity, set at 1,623,000 metric tonnes per annum. This decision was revealed on Sunday as part of the company's efforts to address and adapt to ongoing challenges.

According to Qatar News Agency, Alba has taken these operational measures to ensure business continuity in light of supply and transit disruptions affecting the Strait of Hormuz. The shutdown is also intended to support production resilience, manage working capital effectively, and explore alternative strategies to mitigate exposure to immediate supply volatility.

The company has emphasized that the shutdown process is being conducted in a controlled and safe manner to minimize any health, safety, environmental, and operational risks, ensuring the long-term performance of the affected assets is safeguarded.

Alba has assured that it is actively monitoring the evolving situation and will provide timely updates to the market. Moreover, the company is collaborating closely with its suppliers and customers to manage existing commitments and minimize potential disruptions.
