HE Ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the State Qatar Safraaz Ahmad Shadood stressed the significance of the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Guyana, describing it as historic and significant since it is the first state visit for an Arab leader in the history of his country.
In his remarks to Qatar News Agency , His Excellency said that the visit of HH the Amir is of extreme importance to Guyana given the fact that HH the Amir is the first Arab leader to visit the Republic of Guyana, which is significant and gives a strong indication of what the future holds in terms of prosperity in future growing relations.
HE the Ambassador valued the great efforts made to frame cooperation relations between the two countries through agreements that are being prepared, expressing his confidence that His Highness' visit would positively impact the peoples of the two friendly countries and their future.
His Excellency hailed Qatar's foreign policy and its distinction in various fields, saying that it's very futuristic thinking, thanks to its wise leadership.
HE the Ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana touched on the growing development that relations between the two countries have witnessed since establishing the diplomatic relations between them in 1996. His Excellency pointed out that these relations have seen a significant leap over the past few years based on the directives and keenness of the leaderships of the two friendly countries to develop and enhance them in various fields.
His Excellency noted that HH the Amir and HE President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali held talks over the phone in October 2020, where they discussed several issues regarding developing close cooperation between the two countries in fields of energy, agriculture, food security, and climate.
His Excellency pointed out that HH the Amir and HE the President also discussed the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the world back then and the cooperation between the two countries in that regard, expressing appreciation that the State of Qatar provided medical assistance to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana during the pandemic by providing a mobile military hospital, ventilators, and other medical equipment.
His Excellency said that the talks included the agreement to inaugurate an embassy for the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in Doha, launching accelerated steps in this regard as of December 2020, followed by inaugurating the embassy in October 2021 to build strong relations between the two countries.
HE Ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana pointed out that those steps encouraged the mutual visits between the two countries as Guyana welcomed official Qatari delegations, including a delegation chaired by HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, who visited Guyana in 2022, in addition to the visits made by several Qatari businesspersons.
In this context, His Excellency noted the visit of HE President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali to Doha in May 2023, saying that it was rather more than an ordinary visit in light of the topics and issues discussed to promote the relations between the two countries. He added that he expects the two countries will reap those rewards during HH the Amir's visit to Guyana.
His Excellency added that the relations between the two countries saw a huge momentum and unprecedented activity during 2021-2023 as HE President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali visited Doha and now HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is visiting Georgetown.
He added that this is unprecedented as it happened during a short time, reflecting the commitment of both countries to ensure that the relationship continues to grow and prosper for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
HE Ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana praised Qatar's global leading role, saying that Qatar is a friend of many countries and gained its reputation as a global mediator to settle disputes which is not an easy matter, as well as being the world sports capital.
In a related context, he noted Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and achieving exceptional results, stressing that the hosting represented a lesson in logistic excellence, which is unprecedented, making it difficult for any other country to match what Qatar did during the tournament.
HE Ambassador Shadood stressed that Guyana is trying to benefit from Qatar's experience, which became a global capital, saying that Qatar's approach is being applied now in Guyana, as the track that Qatar took to become a world sports capital is the same track that Guyana is taking currently, so there are a lot of lessons that Guyana should learn from Qatar.
His Excellency touched on the economic resources of Guyana, especially in the energy, oil, and agriculture sectors, stressing that they are two significant priorities in developing cooperation between Qatar and Guyana, in addition to food security and climate.
Concluding his remarks to QNA, HE Ambassador of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the State Qatar Safraaz Ahmad Shadood expressed his ultimate confidence that the visit of HH the Amir would achieve positive results to launch the relations to broader horizons in a way that benefits the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
