Arab League Hails Yemen Prisoner Swap Agreement

Lebanon: The Arab League welcomed the agreement signed in Amman on Thursday for the exchange of prisoners, abductees, and detainees in Yemen involving the release of 1,750 individuals. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the deal is an important humanitarian step that could ease the suffering of many families and pave the way for a broader exchange agreement based on the principle of all for all.

According to Qatar News Agency, Aboul Gheit praised the efforts of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UN envoy to Yemen, and the International Committee of the Red Cross in reaching the agreement. He stressed the importance of fully implementing the deal according to the agreed timeline and mechanism, emphasizing its significance in addressing humanitarian concerns in the region.

The agreement represents a collaborative effort among regional and international actors to address the long-standing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
