Doha: The Arab League emphasized the significance of European backing for the Arab Recovery and Reconstruction Plan of the Gaza Strip, adopted by the Extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4.
According to Qatar News Agency, during a phone call with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit underscored the importance of establishing the necessary conditions to promptly implement the Arab Recovery and Reconstruction Plan of Gaza. He highlighted the need to maintain the ceasefire and ensure the Israeli occupation permits humanitarian aid to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Kaja Kallas reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, advocating for the two-state solution as the optimal resolution to the conflict. She reiterated the EU and its member states’ opposition to the displacement of Palestinians from their territories.
The conversation also covered recent developments in Syria, particularly concerning clashes in several Syrian coastal governorates. Both parties explored avenues to strengthen bilateral relations between their organizations and enhance cooperation between the Arab world and the EU on various fronts.
