Mohammed Al Zubari, Deputy Chief of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) received a delegation from the United Arab Emirates National Human Rights Institution (NHRI), led by Chairperson Maqsoud Kruse.
During the meeting, the delegation was briefed on the SIU's nature as a independent legal jurisdiction within the legal system of Bahrain, as well as about its role in protecting human rights in the criminal justice system, in cooperation with the national mechanisms and institutions.
The attendees were also briefed on the organisational structure of the unit, its specialized sections and the mechanisms for carrying out its work in accordance with international agreements, standards, and protocols.
This visit aims to enhance cooperation with national institutions and mechanisms specialised in protecting and enhancing human rights by exchanging experiences, and supporting capacity-building efforts, based on the distinguished relations between the two countries.
