Council of Representatives condemns Israeli bombing of Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza

Manama, The Council of Representatives expressed condemnation and strong denunciation of the Israeli bombing of Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of innocent Palestinians.

The council stressed that the actions against civilian facilities and targets were a grave violation of international and humanitarian law, and an unfortunate result of Western double standards and international silence on the ongoing Israeli escalation, which could lead to further violations and losses.

The Council of Representatives urged the international community to take urgent action to immediately cease collective punishment policies against the people of the Gaza Strip, provide the necessary protection for civilians, and open urgent humanitarian corridors for medical and relief aid, food, water, electricity, and fuel into the Gaza Strip.

The council asserted the importance of respecting international humanitarian law and treaties which protect civilians and human rights, which must be violated during conflict; and called for preventing the region from an overspill of violence and instability.

The Council of Representatives affirmed the firm position of Bahrain in supporting just and comprehensive peace efforts, and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international legitimacy resolutions.

The council expressed its sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and to the Palestinian people and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
