A spokesman for the army in the Democratic Republic of the Congo announced that the armed forces foiled an attempted coup with the involvement of Congolese and foreign combatants. In a statement aired on local television in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the spokesman confirmed that attempted coup was intended to overthrow the government and seize power by force and had been foiled with all conspirators being apprehended. Meanwhile, three people were killed in an armed clash between men wearing military uniform and bodyguards of one of the politicians near the office of the President in Kinshasa. Spokesperson for the national president of the UNC Vital Kamerhe Michel Moto said that armed men attacked Kamerhi's residence in Kinshasa but were repelled by his guards. Local media identified the men as Congolese soldiers, and it was unclear whether they were trying to arrest the politician, who is a candidate for the position of President of the Congolese National Assembly in the elections that were def erred due to a dispute within the ruling party.
