Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, met with Mohammed Khalid Khiari, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs – Department of Peace Operations.
They met on the sidelines of the high-level political forum at the UN Economic and Social Council in New York, in which Bahrain is reviewing its second national report for the implementation of the sustainable development goals.
Dr. Al Khalifa praised the efforts of the Political Affairs Department, Peacebuilding and Peace Operations in maintaining international peace and security.
He also affirmed that Bahrain supports dialogue, openness and works to end conflicts, in addition to supporting world peace, especially in the Middle East.
The undersecretary emphasised on the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Khiari appreciated Bahrain's role in supporting the operations of the UN peacekeeping forces, noting the Department's tasks assigned to it by the main organs of the UN.
He expressed the Department's aspiration to continue to enhance cooperation with Bahrain.
