Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fadhel Al-Rahim, participated, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, in the coordination meeting at the ministerial level of the Non-Aligned Movement held in New York on September 23, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the work of the United Nations General Assembly in its seventy-ninth session. Al-Rahim stressed, in a speech he delivered on behalf of Iraq, the need to enhance joint action among the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement to confront the serious political and security challenges facing the region, in line with the goals and principles on which the movement was founded. He pointed to the pivotal role played by Iraq in alleviating the severity of crises and bringing viewpoints closer together to avoid conflicts and wars in the region. Al-Rahim also renewed, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iraq's firm position towards the Palestinian issue, calling on the international community to take serious action to stop the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, denouncing the recent attacks on Lebanon.
