Geneva, Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health, met with Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, the Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), on the sidelines of the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. The minister highlighted the Kingdom's health sector achievements, in line with the comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. She emphasised Bahrain's commitment to providing sustainable and comprehensive healthcare to everyone, and its keenness to share its expertise with the international community, particularly its experience in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed cooperation and means to benefit from the WHO's expertise in combating diseases, specifically disease vectors. This includes strengthening collaboration in training, capacity building in the health sector, and initiating health plans and programmes in the upcoming period. The minister thanked WHO for its continuous support in implementing various joint projects and health initiatives. Dr. Al Sayed highlighted Bahrain's initiatives, which were adopted under the outcomes of the 33rd Arab Summit, held under the presidency of HM the King. Furthermore, Dr. Al Sayed highlighted Bahrain's initiatives that were announced at the 33rd Arab Summit hosted in the kingdom and those included in the "Bahrain Declaration" with the aim of contributing to the stability and development of the region. Some of those initiatives are providing healthcare for people affected by conflicts, developing the pharmaceutical and vaccine industry across Arab countries, and ensuring the availability of medicine and treatment through collaborative efforts with the Arab League, WHO, and Bahrain. For his part, Dr. Ghebreyesus commended Bahrain's advanced health sector, particularly in emergency preparedness and response, in line with global health goals and utilising the latest technologies, research, and studies to combat viruses and epidemic diseases on regional and global levels. He commended Bahrain's efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development, advancing the health sector, and ensuring global health coverage. Source: Bahrain News Agency
