Iranian Attacks on Qatar Threaten Regional Stability, Says Prime Minister

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani declared that the recent Iranian attacks on Qatar, including the targeting of the Ras Laffan energy complex, signify a dangerous escalation and an unacceptable violation, amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the USA.

According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency stated at a press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that Qatar condemned the initial Israeli attack on Iranian facilities, but Iran's response through direct attacks on Qatar is unwarranted. The Ras Laffan energy complex was recently targeted, continuing a series of strikes on military and civilian sites.

He explained that this act of sabotage reflects an aggressive policy and noted that the attack on the natural gas facility impacts Qatar's economy and global energy supplies. Despite precautions, some facilities were damaged, though no casualties were reported.

HE the Prime Minister renewed Qatar's rejection of Iranian claims that these attacks target US interests, emphasizing the need for regional security and a collective responsibility to halt hostilities. He highlighted recent disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and stressed the importance of regional cooperation to de-escalate tensions.

During discussions with Turkey's Foreign Minister, both leaders emphasized joint action to condemn the aggression and urged Iran to comply with UN Security Council resolutions. The attacks on Turkiye were also condemned, and the importance of regional stability was stressed.

HE the Prime Minister reiterated that Qatar values diplomatic efforts as the primary solution to conflicts and expressed gratitude for Turkiye's supportive stance. Emphasizing that the war must cease immediately, he noted that the conflict serves agendas that threaten regional peace.

The meeting in Riyadh saw regional countries collectively rejecting Iran's actions, and HE the Prime Minister reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to dialogue and diplomacy, hoping to avoid further destabilization. He concluded by reserving Qatar's right to respond through legal avenues.

HE Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed solidarity with Qatar, condemning attacks on civilian infrastructure. He highlighted the need for diplomatic solutions and cautioned against distractions from issues in Gaza and Lebanon. He affirmed Turkey's commitment to cooperation with Qatar, enhancing defense ties, and confronting regional threats.
