Kenya, Somalia Discuss Enhancing Security Cooperation

Nairobi: Kenyan Interior Minister Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen discussed with the Somali Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, who is visiting Nairobi, ways to enhance security cooperation between the two countries. During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of strengthening joint security coordination and enhancing information exchange mechanisms to address cross-border security challenges, most notably combating armed groups and organized crime, as well as coordination on migration and border control issues.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions focused on the need for increased collaboration in tackling the persistent threats posed by armed groups operating along the border regions. Both ministers emphasized the importance of establishing robust frameworks for information sharing to tackle organized crime effectively. They also highlighted the significance of coordinated efforts in managing migration and improving border control to ensure the safety and security of both nations.

The meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to foster stronger ties between Kenya and Somalia, particularly in the realm of security.
