Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun expressed hope that his initiative to halt the ongoing war and commence direct negotiations with Israel, under international sponsorship, will see progress. In a statement on Monday, Aoun emphasized the Lebanese state's responsibility towards all its citizens, irrespective of their religious sects.

According to Qatar News Agency, the President is optimistic about achieving a breakthrough with his initiative, aimed at ending the daily losses experienced by Lebanese people in terms of land, livelihood, lives, and future. Aoun highlighted the importance of halting the war, noting that the continued conflict only leads to increased destruction in Lebanon.

President Aoun remarked that it is inconceivable for Lebanon to endure another war in which it plays no part. He reiterated that the Lebanese state is the sole entity capable of ensuring the protection of all its citizens and affirmed that the restoration of state institutions would be achieved despite any challenges.
